Key Advantages

3D Texture & Depth

Embossed relief patterns create dramatic shadow effects that change with the angle of light — adding visual depth no flat tile can match.

Artistic Statement

Carving tiles transform a plain wall into a design feature — ideal for bathroom feature walls, living room accents, and reception areas.

Superior Grip

The textured surface provides excellent slip resistance — carving tiles are among the safest floor tile options for wet areas.

Golden Carving Variant

Our golden carving series adds metallic gold highlights to the relief pattern, creating a luxurious effect for premium interiors.

Versatile Applications

Use as a full feature wall, as a border strip between plain tiles, or as a floor accent in entrance halls and corridors.

Easy Maintenance

Despite the textured surface, carving tiles are easy to clean with a soft brush and pH-neutral cleaner.

How Carving Tiles Are Made

Carving tiles are produced using specially designed press moulds that emboss three-dimensional relief patterns into the tile surface during the pressing stage. The depth and complexity of the carving is determined by the mould design — our range includes shallow surface textures (2–3mm depth) for subtle tactile effects, and deep architectural reliefs (5–8mm depth) for dramatic visual impact.

After pressing, the tiles are glazed using a technique that accentuates the three-dimensional relief — typically with a glaze that pools in the recesses and thins on the raised areas, creating natural light and shadow effects. The tiles are then fired at high temperatures, permanently fusing the glaze to the body and locking in the three-dimensional form.

Design Applications for Carving Tiles

Carving tiles are most impactful when used as accent elements rather than covering entire surfaces. Popular applications include: feature walls in living rooms, bedrooms, and hotel lobbies where a single wall of carving tiles creates a dramatic focal point; bathroom accent walls behind the vanity or bath; kitchen backsplashes where a carving tile adds texture and interest; fireplace surrounds where the three-dimensional surface complements the architectural feature; and exterior facade panels where the relief creates interesting shadow patterns throughout the day.

Buying & Installation Tips

Use carving tiles as a feature wall accent rather than covering all walls — one statement wall is more impactful.
Pair carving tiles with plain matt tiles of the same colour family for a cohesive, layered look.
For bathroom feature walls, position carving tiles behind the bath or vanity for maximum visual impact.
Use a soft brush to clean the relief grooves — a flat mop will not reach into the textured surface effectively.
Golden carving tiles work best in warm-toned interiors — pair with cream, beige, or warm grey plain tiles.
For floor use, carving tiles provide excellent grip — ideal for entrance halls and covered outdoor areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Carving tiles require slightly more attention to clean than flat tiles because dirt can accumulate in the recesses of the relief pattern. A soft brush or grout brush with a pH-neutral cleaner is effective for cleaning the recesses. Avoid high-pressure water jets that can force water behind the tiles.

Yes, but with some considerations. Shallow carving tiles (2–3mm relief depth) are suitable for floor use and provide good slip resistance. Deep carving tiles (5–8mm relief) are better suited for wall applications as the deep recesses can be uncomfortable underfoot and difficult to clean on floors.

Our carving tiles are available in 300x600mm (ideal for wall applications and backsplashes), 600x600mm (versatile for both floors and walls), and 600x1200mm (for large feature walls). The 300x600mm carving range offers the widest variety of relief patterns.
